PoLTE Corporation and Sequans announced that they will prototype a joint solution that integrates PoLTE positioning technology into Sequans’ Monarch LTE chip, enabling highly-accurate indoor and outdoor positioning capability for LTE-enabled IoT devices. What sets the solution apart is it offers secure and persistent location of any LTE-enabled device by leveraging only the LTE network, while other competitors will have to increase their costs, size and energy consumption by relying on GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and hybrid location solutions.

Possible applications include IoT usecases, such as smart energy meters, industrial IoT sensors, asset trackers, smart city controllers and consumer wearables.

The new solution is based on off-loading small amounts of modem data to PoLTE’s cloud servers where location engines accurately calculate positioning of devices. If a location engine was embedded in the device itself, processing power and memory would be constrained while adversely impacting battery life and device size.

The Monarch LTE Platform is an LTE-M/NB-IoT chip used by many device makers and operators around the world. It is optimized to support low data use, ultra-low-power, and cost-sensitive IoT applications, such as smart energy meters, industrial IoT sensors, asset trackers, smart city controllers and consumer wearables.

PoLTE’s Positioning over LTE (PoLTE) technology brings precise positioning (2 to 6 meters) and helps mobile network operators to deliver highly accurate location data to customers in indoor and outdoor environments.
