Mozilla has launched a concept “Project Things” which aims towards bringing decentralization in IoT. This is said to enable building up of Things Gateway using the Raspberry Pi platform. This concept employs voice-based commands along with web-based commands and controls. After the Things Gateway has been set up, it will provide the user guidelines of the process of network connections and addition of devices. The setup process also provides a URL that enables access and control over the various connected devices from any given location.
This platform employs the microphone present on the computer for issuing voice commands. Also, the rules engine ensures interaction of devices with each other. In order to layout devices on the map of a home, this solution has a floor-plan view. Providing device support in the form of smart plugs, dimmable and colored lights, multi-level switches and sensors and their virtual versions when the real devices are absent. Add-on system has been developed to support the protocols and devices. Moreover, there is a system to safely authorize third-party applications i.e. OAuth.
