e-con Systems launches 8MP Autofocus MIPI Camera Board for IoT Applications

e-con Systems has announced the launch of e-CAM80_IMX7, 8MP full HD autofocus MIPI camera board for NXP i.MX7. This device will target IoT applications, kiosk, microscope, barcode reading (1D and 2D), patient monitoring, smart home controls, wearables and building automation.

The firm says that e-CAM80_IMX7 is a CSI-2 MIPI camera which can be interfaced with NXP SABRE development board. e-CAM80_IMX7 will be based on 1/3.2″ OV8865 CMOS image sensor from Omni Vision. It consists of a high-performance Image Signal Processor (ISP) performing all the auto functions like auto focus, auto white balance and auto exposure control. Also, it will be able to stream full HD 1080p@30fps supporting 8MP@11fps.

The operating temperature range is between 0ºC and 50ºC. Power requirements for this device is 0.6012 W (max) active power and 0.3162 W at standby. The dimensions of board size are 50.76 mm x 17.02 mm x 7.2 mm i.e length, width and height respectively. This lightweight, portable designed device is suitable for IoT applications. The module features of this device has an OmniVision OV8865 Color 1/3.2″ optical format CMOS image sensor . The camera has auto-focus with an 8 MP resolution. Its focusing range is from 10 cm to infinity and an effective focal length of 3.69 mm. The Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is 36.7 dB and dynamic range being 68.8 dB. The output has the 10 bit RGB RAW format and an electronic rolling shutter.

The camera employs a V4L2 Linux driver and contains an application with source for image capture at different resolutions. The camera controls feature brightness, contrast, sharpness and white balance. It has both a vertical flip and a horizontal flip. The color effects comprise of black and white effects and focus features of the camera include continuous autofocus, absolute focus and single trigger focus. The iM7 camera kit includes e-CAM80_IMX7 MIPI camera board, an interface board and a flex cable.
