In this interview, Mr Satheesh Sugumaran, Senior Solutions Engineer, APAC, Datameer takes us through cloud based computing and analytics while helping us understand how data works while working on it.
Important Cloud Facts
Cloud computing
Cloud computing has many version of definitions but it is primarily storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer’s hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet.
Inventor of cloud computing
Cloud computing is believed to have been invented by Aamir Shahzad in the 1960s with his work on ARPANET to connect people and data from anywhere at any time.
Cloud server
A cloud server is a logical server that is built, hosted and delivered through a cloud computing platform over the Internet. Cloud servers possess and exhibit similar capabilities and functionality to a typical server but are accessed remotely from a cloud service provider.
Cloud usecases
Cloud Computing is the use of hardware and software to deliver a service over a network (typically the Internet). With cloud computing, users can access files and use applications from any device that can access the Internet. there are many providers and many many popular services for storage and analytics are hosted with the help of these platforms and infrastructure.
Components of cloud services
- Clients: The clients comprise the end users who interact with the cloud using devices that readily connect to this infrastructure. Computers, Smartphones, Tablets, smartwatches ect. are all part of the client end.
- Datacenters: Data centers comprise of collections of server swarms(housing thousands of server stacks) made available to the client based upon their subscription type. Datacenters are popular due to remote operation management, storage, high availability and factors such as security infrastructure that surround them.
- Distributed Computing: Distributed computing is sharing software components among multiple computers to improve efficiency and performance. It is limited to programs and components shared within a limited geographic area. At a broader level, tasks as well as program components form a part of it.
