Samsung has announced a partnership with ABB, an Internet of Things (IoT) company, to expand SmartThings, Samsung’s smart device hub, to enable additional residential and commercial devices. Samsung’s SmartThings is becoming into a one-stop shop for monitoring connected devices by collaborating with other companies.
Chanwoo Park, Samsung Electronics’ Head of IoT Business, commented on the development: “With SmartThings, Samsung has been able to create an eco-system of smart appliances making homes smarter and more efficient. We are excited to build on that by partnering with ABB to expand the SmartThings experience to new customers making it easier for consumers to reduce costs and create positive environmental impact.”
ABB-free@home will be linked with SmartThings as part of the agreement. Customers of ABB-free@home and SmartThings will benefit from a cloud-to-cloud integration that will provide them additional access and control over their devices.
Buildings account for 40% of worldwide carbon emissions, according to Samsung, and the company believes that by establishing smart homes and commercial buildings, consumers would be able to intelligently lower their overall energy use. Remotely turning on and off lights and heaters are just a few of the ways linked gadgets can help users save energy.
