The Triton IoT platform from Damen Shipyards Group has received a Bureau Veritas (BV) Type Approval Certification for Cyber Resilience.

The Triton IoT platform from Damen Shipyards Group has received a Bureau Veritas (BV) Type Approval Certification for Cyber Resilience. With over 10,000 signals for a single vessel, Dame’s Triton IoT platform allows for the collection of all operational asset data from a ship’s engines, pumps, hydraulics, alarms, and other equipment. Fleet managers on land and the crew on board are then informed. Crew can track asset health, maintenance schedule, and more with the use of this data, which is shown on multiple on board and remote dashboards.

Damen Digital Solutions, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Bureau Veritas worked closely together to achieve Triton’s type clearance, a critical milestone for the platform.

Damen has prioritized cyber security and related protocols throughout Triton’s growth. This comprised a rigorous risk management approach, data security in transit and at rest, and the hardening of the gateway. It also included protocols for software and hardware updates. Damen and TCS want to continue to expand the platform, giving their clients useful data analysis that will help to increase the effectiveness of their operations.

“TCS is proud to partner with Damen Digital Solutions BV in this unique initiative that will ensure best-in-class security measures for the Marine IoT ecosystem and will set an industry benchmark,” said Regu Ayyaswamy, Global Head, IoT & Digital Engineering, of TCS.

Triton complied with the cyber security standards outlined in BV Rule Note NR 659 R02 in order to receive this type approval. As Paul Delouche, Strategy & Advanced Services Director at Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore explains, this also makes it comply with the requirement of IACS UR E27 that will go into effect for any contracts signed after January 1st 2024.

The Triton IoT platform is delivered with each of Damen’s newbuilds, which total more than 150 ships annually. Additionally, Triton may be adapted to already-built ships and coexist with legacy systems, giving operators additional chances to take advantage of its capabilities.
