Our quest to explore the Internet of Things (IoT) in a real-world retail application scenario took us closer to Senthil Sundaram – chief operations officer at Bengaluru-based Mobmerry Technologies. Senthil offered useful insights, on the IoT-related services offered by Mobmerry, over a candid chat.

Q.What is your organisation USP with respect to IoT?

A. Mobmerry works with leading brands and retailers – helping them drive store footfalls and sales through omni-channel customer engagement and sharp customer targeting. It has already created a strong impact with 100+ leading brands and 240+ retailers in Bengaluru – solving their 2 biggest problems –  customer walk-in and conversions.

We have deployed over 1000 BLE beacons at the partner stores as part of the Mobmerry marketing platform aimed at driving & tracking walk-ins, and for consumer engagement.

Q. What are the key technologies that you are working on?

A.Location based precision targeting, visual discovery & image search.

Q. Any particular elements that you are already known or famous for (even within your community or sector)?

A. Mobmerry as a start-up pioneered the concept of Online-to-Offline (O2O) helping offline retail brands with offline inventory discoverability and store walk-ins & conversions.

Over the last year, Mobmerry has evolved into a retail marketing platform helping brands in not just making their offline inventory discoverable but also precisely target users in proximity based on their tastes & preferences.

The concept & business model have been well received, with over 100 brands currently on our platform. We are the only organization that has deployed BLE Beacons at scale in the country.

Q. What niche do you intent to be a leader in?

A. We are focused on partnering with retail brands & stores, and helping them address the biggest pain point they are facing today – growing store walk-ins.

Q. What are the major features or projects that your team is currently involved in?

A. As we work with and listen to the feedback from our brand partners, we get to evolve our marketing platform and sharpen our offerings. Our current efforts are centered around enabling the brands to more precisely target consumers based on their location & preferences through store-level analytics, and help grow conversions in the process.

Q. Whom do you target as clients?

A. We work with offline retail brands and boutiques. Currently there are over 100 brands & boutiques, including Adidas, Lee, Vans, Vero Moda, UCB, Riya Kodali, Helios, etc. across 240+ stores on the Mobmerry platform.

Q. How many engineers do you currently have, and how many do you intend to hire in the next 12 months?

A.We are a lean organization with under 25 employees. The engineering team is staffed right and with the right talent to make sure our platform is reliable & scalable.

Over the next 1 year, as we expand our footprint to other metros & tier 1 cities, we would be looking to make strategic, senior level hires across functions to help scale the organization to the next level

Q .Do you have a training/internship program?

A. Yes, we do hire interns and trainees from time to time on need basis. We are also an invitee to some of the top management and engineering institutes for summer and final placements.
