With cloud and edge computing technologies expanding through industries, it becomes a need to combine them for successful IoT deployment. To address combined use of both technologies in industry, cloud computing service provider Google and edge computing service supplier Litmus, today announced the expansion of its strategic partnership to offer an integrated edge-to-cloud solution for smart manufacturing.
As part of the partnership, Google Cloud will incorporate Litmus’ industrial edge computing platform into its suite of smart factory solutions. “The biggest challenge our customers face is access to quality machine data,” said Dominik Wee, Managing Director, Manufacturing and Industrial, Google Cloud.
According to Litmus, its platform is purpose-built for collecting, processing, and analysing data at the edge from industrial machines. Automation World has quoted Litmus CEO and co-founder saying, “it’s the first ever combined solution from a cloud company—both from a product and go-to-market perspective. This differentiates the Google Cloud Platform over AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Microsoft Azure and takes them miles ahead of their edge computing for manufacturing offerings by bundling Litmus. This will make it quick and easy for customers to get access to their machine data in the cloud.”
Litmus previously announced that it would bring its Litmus Edge platform to Google Cloud, part of a partnership to help manufacturers modernise processes and enable new AI capabilities at the edge with 5G. The expanded alliance is said to integrates each company’s offerings and allows customers to purchase directly from Google through a go-to-market partnership.
