3 State Owned Oil Marketing Companies Announce to Automate Retail Networks

The Hughes JUPITER system will drive cost savings by enabling data transfers, loyalty card administration, web-based applications and banking transactions. It  well also allow remote viewing of outlets

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) have signed with Hughes Communications India to automate their retail network.

The move will help these state-owned oil marketing companies in virtually monitoring tank levels at petrol pump outlets, checking and reducing pilferage, ensuring updated pricing across all retail outlets in the country on a daily basis. The companies will also be able to remote view their outlets on a real-time basis.

Partho Banerjee, president and managing director, Hughes India said, “In addition to driving cost savings, our Hughes technology and managed services will help the companies take control over applications such as monitoring of tank levels at petrol pump outlets, checking and reducing pilferage, and ensuring updated pricing across all retail outlets across the country on a daily basis, enhancing customer satisfaction and achieving transparency in their operations.”

Deployment and management of the JUPITER System

Hughes will be deploying its JUPITER System to automate the retail networks of these oil marketing majors in India. The oil companies have also agreed on renting Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) for a time period of five years.

The company in a statement said, “Under separate contracts, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) will each use the JUPITER system to upgrade network connectivity across 19,000 locations collectively to increase speed of transactions, eliminate manual interference, and deliver accurate, real-time data across the retail operations.”

Benefits

The automation and management of by Hughes will ensure high-speed connectivity, while 24/7 support and monitoring will help relieve the oil majors from network management and provide them with data access, the statement said.

It added that the JUPITER system will enable data transfers, loyalty card administration, web-based applications and banking transactions, as well as remote viewing of outlets.

Hughes Communications India, a majority-owned subsidiary of Hughes Network Systems, LLC, in 2016 has also helped ONGC in revamping its existing satellite network across India.
