u-blox’s tiny, low-power NINA-B3 module provides full Bluetooth 5 support including long-range paving way to new innovative applications
u-blox announced that its NINA-B3 series are now qualified for all Bluetooth 5 features including long range. With NINA-B3’s comprehensive Bluetooth 5 support, Bluetooth long range qualification and worldwide certifications, the module helps to open up innovative usecases and further shorten time to market. Typical applications include smart buildings and cities, healthcare, Industry 4.0, automotive and transportation. Additional applications include smart lighting systems, street lighting, industrial sensor networks, asset tracking solutions, building automation systems and more.
Bluetooth 5 low energy module qualified for long range
NINA-B3 combines features including an open CPU architecture, a powerful core and versatile I/O with Bluetooth low energy long-range connectivity, high data transfer rates, Bluetooth mesh and 802.15.4.
The module offers developers the choice of either working with the open CPU architecture or using the pre-flashed u-blox Connectivity Software, in which the latest Bluetooth low energy standard can be added to the end-product without any specialized knowledge of embedded programming or Bluetooth low energy, says the firm.
NINA-B3 is built around the nRF52840 chip from Nordic Semiconductor with an Arm Cortex-M4, 1 MB flash memory and 256 kB RAM.
“With the Bluetooth 5 qualification and global certifications, NINA-B3 now provides everything you need to add the latest Bluetooth low energy standard to any end product and assure customers of full standards compliance,” explains Pelle Svensson, Market Development Manager, Product Center Short Range Radio at u-blox. “NINA-B3 provides full Bluetooth 5 support for 2x data throughput, 4x range and 8x broadcast data, and reaches ranges of up to 1500 meters in line of sight applications. And this tiny, low power module does all this in one of the smallest footprints on the market”.
With pin and form factor compatibility with the wider family of u-blox NINA modules for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, the module provides a fast upgrade path and flexibility for customers designing devices for several radio solutions.
