The announced NB-IoT protocol stack will be hosted on the Tensilica platform and can tap smart city solutions

Engineering services company L&T Technology Services (LTTS) has collaborated with Cadence Design Systems to launch a narrow band-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) solution. The protocol is a step towards facilitating smart connectivity.

Connectivity benefits

The NB-IoT protocol stack nB-on will be hosted on Cadence’s Tensilica platform. NB-IoT is said to be a low power wide area network connectivity standard from Béc cellular industry to enable a range of devices and services to be connected.

The Tensilica solution can be integrated into system-on-chip (SOC) devices to advance time to market with probable reductions in risk through pre-verified and pre-certified intellectual property (IP). This can benefit organisations that intend to derive benefits from IoT enabled connected devices.

Scope for growth

According to Technavio, the global NB-IoT chipset market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 61 per cent from 2017-2020, while Gartner has predicted that the number of ‘connected things‘ will reach 20.4 billion by 2020.

Keeping the potential growth in mind, the collaboration aims at leveraging NB-IoT for the development of smart cities. This can help accelerate solutions for smart cities, smart communication systems and security solutions.
