Nokia announced the global launch of its latest range of AirScale 5G products covering baseband, remote radio heads and massive MIMO active antennas. The new innovations are powered by the company’s latest generation of ReefShark chipsets, designed to deliver high capacity and network performance.
The new AirScale massive MIMO antennas are available in both 32TRX and 64TRX configurations supporting fragmented spectrum and network sharing cases. Nokia also introduced new plug-in cards that are said to deliver upto eight times more throughput compared to previous generations, and reducing consumption upto 75 per cent. The modular AirScale baseband claims to enable mobile operators to scale capacity efficiently.
The company has also extended Single RAN software that accelerates the rollout of 5G. Nokia claims the Single RAN software along with the new baseband plug-in would offer multi-band and support fronthaul interfaces (eCPRI) on single baseband platform.
“Our new generation of ReefShark-powered AirScale radio and baseband products is evidence of the successful transformation of our business and ability to deliver market-leading products to our global customers. Nokia’s new portfolio enables communication service providers to offer both consumer and enterprise customers with cutting-edge 5G experiences with premium speeds, capacity, and connectivity underpinned by seamless, simple, and efficient ‘plug-in’ deployment. Our new AirScale products are O-RAN ready. They consume less energy and highlight our commitment to climate change. We’re excited to see our customers deploying these products and see the transformative impact of 5G technology,” said Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks, Nokia.
Nokia’s Reef Shark chipsets are expected to play critical role in AI and Machine Learning capabilities. The company had earlier introduced AI/ML features and is carrying out proof of concepts with customers in innovative areas.
