The SKY66431 small system-in-package, co-developed by Sequans and Skyworks, offers LTE-M and NB-IoT connection for 5G large IoT deployments.
The SKY66431 pairs a 23-dBm RF front end from Skyworks with Sequans’ Monarch 2 LTE-M and NB-IoT modem running in the 699-MHz to 2200-MHz frequency range. It is housed in an 8.811.31.585-mm BGA package. The device also offers low-power GNSS functionality, memory, crystals, and power management.
The system-in-package meets with the 3GPP release 14 LTE-Advanced Pro standard’s ultra-low power and reduced complexity feature criteria and is upgradeable to 3GPP release 15 and 16. This standard defines narrowband, low data rate LTE technology for machine-type communications (MTC). The SKY66431 is designed to meet the demand for cellular LPWAN endpoints that are form-factor oriented. It can be utilised for battery-powered devices including utility metres, asset trackers, security and alert systems, wearable medical equipment, and more.
Under the names Monarch 2 SiP and SKY66431, respectively, the product is offered for sale by both Sequans and Skyworks. Numerous industry and regulatory organisations, as well as numerous network operators, are certifying the component. Select clients can already purchase it, and general availability is anticipated during the first quarter of 2023.
