Unlimit’s AIS-140 system aims to provide secure operations of connected vehicles and significantly bring down the operational costs for automotive vendors
Reliance group-backed Internet of Things (IoT) provider, Unlimit, has launched its comprehensive Automotive Industry Standard 140 (AIS-140) compliant global positioning system for automotive vendors across India.
The company claims that the AIS-140 location tracking system provides an end-to-end solution in the deployment and operations of connected vehicles efficiently, securely and by significantly helping to reduce the associated operational costs.
System designed with industry guidelines
AIS-140 is the set of guidelines by the latest Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) introduced by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). It is designed to set up an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) in India and includes pre-certified devices, backend application and analytics, managed cellular connectivity from leading service providers.
IoT crucial in improving passenger experience
Jurgen Hase, CEO, Unlimit, said that the Internet of Things (IoT) was crucial for enabling improved passenger experiences, safety and efficiency. He added that Unlimit is committed to helping its customers harness the power of connectivity. He feels that the AIS 140 solution will be critical in making public transport safer for everyone. It will help officials in tracking vehicles and allow passengers to notify in case of emergencies.
The government has directed the state governments to enforce the standards and equip the AIS-140 compliant GPS tracking devices with the supporting software for all passenger-carrying buses and other public transport vehicles starting from January 1, 2019.
