Telangana Aims To Become AI Hub, Attract 200 Startups

The Telangana government has partnered with Intel, Adobe, Tech Mahindra, Nvidia, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and IIT Khargapur and IIIT Hyderabad. These partnerships will focus on research, capacity building, encouraging entrepreneurship and ecosystem building around artificial intelligence (AI).

TCS has announced that it will invest in the AI domain in Hyderabad. Recently, Telangana had announced 2020 as the Year of AI. At the meet to announce this, Telangana information technology minister K T Rama Rao has put out the AI roadmap for the state. He said that the state government has set a target of attracting and enabling 200 Artificial Innovators and start-ups. This will lead to a valuation of $ 3-4 billion to build their base in Hyderabad

High-Performance AI Computing (HPAIC) Infrastructure

He also said that the government expected an additional contribution of one per cent to the State Gross Domestic Product from the initiatives generated by AI. To attract global top talent in the field of AI, the government will make High-Performance AI Computing (HPAIC) Infrastructure available to startups. This will also be available to research firms and academic institutes.

The state government has partnered with with Intel, IIIT Hyderabad and PHFI to set with Intel, IIIT Hyderabad and PHFI. It will focus on diagnostics, proactive public health, autonomous navigation and supply chain automation. The centre will also conduct research on connected vehicles and multi-vehicle systems, security, privacy and datasets.

AI training sessions for women, minority groups

NVIDIA will set up a High Performance AI Computing (HPAIC) Centre in Telangana. This aims to allow startups and other institutions to access high-end computing infrastructure. This is required required to analyse data quickly to get real-time analytics. NVIDIA will also help in startup incubation and conduct AI training sessions to support women and minority groups. It will also organise hackathons.

IIT Kharagpur has teamed up with the government to set up an R&D Park and an AI-Centre of Excellence. It will focus on advanced manufacturing, life-sciences and aerospace and defence.
