Arizona State University and Sprint Team Up to Bring 5G and IoT Program

Arizona State University and telecommunications company Sprint have partnered to bring a program that will focus on 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). The multiyear program will build on 5G connectivity  on campus, produce new IoT curriculum and launch joint research projects.

The technology will be provided by Sprint, including True Mobile 5G, which the company has provided as a wireless mobile service to nine cities around USA. It will also provide Curiosity IoT which will be a 5G-ready IoT network and operating system.

5G service is already available to parts of the Arizona State campus. The University is planning to start “Curiosity University” which will provide courses and academic programs for developing an IoT workforce.

Sprint 5G incubator

Sethuraman Panchanathan, the university’s chief research and innovation officer, in a statement  said, “The entire university community and those throughout the greater Phoenix metropolitan area will benefit directly from this collaboration by having access to Sprint’s network and through the educational and research aspects that will usher in new innovations in technology.”

The program will also include the formation of a Sprint 5G incubator at the university’s Novus Innovation Corridor. Arizona State and Sprint will also work with Arizona state to deliver high-speed connectivity to rural areas.
