According to a recent report by The Associated Press, the US is planning blacklist a group of Chinese tech companies that develop facial recognition and other artificial intelligence technology.
The blacklist effectively bars US firms from selling technology to the Chinese companies without government approval, reported the news daily. US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said that the US government “will not tolerate the brutal suppression of ethnic minorities within China.”
Blacklisted companies
Hikvision and Dahua are among the blacklisted companies. Both the companies are the global providers of video surveillance technology. As per the sources, Sense Time, Megvii, and iFlytek are also on the radar.
Hikvision said in a statement that it respects human rights and “strongly opposes the Trump administration’s decision.” The company further added that it has spent a year trying to “clarify misunderstandings about the company and address their concerns,” and that this will hurt its US business partners.
Recently, US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has warned India over using Huawei’s 5G equipment. According to Ross, the U.S. hopes that India “does not inadvertently subject itself to untoward security risk” by using 5G equipment from the Chinese tech giant.
