UltraSoC, a Cambridge-based supplier of advanced debugging and analytic technology for embedded systems, has joined the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) IoT Security Working Group.

The Group has recently identified automotive security as a key area for focus – an area where UltraSoC will draw on its experience in embedded analytics for cybersecurity and functional safety applications. The tech startup will be participating in the Group’s activities related to automotive security.

Rupert Baines, CEO of UltraSoC, commented, “We are committed to improving cybersecurity and functional safety from ‘within’ and we believe all devices can benefit from the sort of in-life embedded intelligence our technology delivers.”

As a member of the group, UltraSoC will participate in the IoT Security Workshop, to be organised as part of the 2019 GSA Silicon Summit in Santa Clara, USA.

“Being able to guarantee security at the heart of our technology is fundamental to the work of this group,” said Marc Canel, Chair of the GSA Security Working Group.

“We’re therefore delighted that UltraSoC has joined the Group and look forward to benefiting from the company’s ‘embedded insights’ to educate and inform our essential work in this area,” he added.

What is this group all about?

The GSA IoT Security Working Group was established to address end-to-end issues in IoT security. It is comprised of various IoT ecosystem security stakeholders including chipset vendors, platform companies, cloud vendors and service providers.

The Board of Directors, including Chair and Vice Chair, for the Group was appointed in April this year.

Stakeholders in the IoT security ecosystem from more than 50 companies are part of this Group.

The main goal of this Group is to promote best practices on IoT security, share information on threats and attacks, define security requirements and inform standards bodies.

The Working Group has also already identified important project topics including Pre-Silicon Assessment, Identity Management, Provisioning, Trusted Supply Chain and Virtualization. The Group will also be undertaking future projects in Automotive Security and Silicon-as-a-Service.
