u-blox, a leading global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies, and SolidRun, a leading company in embedded systems and networking solutions, announced that they have entered into a partnership on a new range of connectivity products for the Internet of Things (IoT). The new range of products include turnkey IoT edge gateways for indoor and outdoor use, system-on-modules (SOMs) and single-board computers (SBCs).

The new products are incorporated with u-blox NINA stand-alone single, dual or multi-radio module, offering the connectivity needed by IoT applications in a small, low power and fully certified format.

The SolidSense N6 Edge Gateway of SolidRun is an enterprise-grade IoT machine-to-machine (M2M) gateway that is developed to manage a local network of IoT endpoints.

The N6 Edge Gateway is a completely enclosed fan-less design in configurations and is suitable for indoor as well as outdoor installation. This makes the gateway a lot simpler in introducing Internet connectivity in a distributed network of smart sensors and actuators.

Features and specifications

The SBCs and gateways from SolidRun are equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Personal Area Networking, cellular connectivity, Wirepas Mesh, along with a USB and a 10/100/1000 wired Ethernet interface. These solutions are powered by NXP’s i.MX6 ARM Cortex-A9 processor in either a single, dual or quad-core configuration, depending on the needs of application. In addition, these can integrate up to 2GB of DDR3 memory.

Commenting on the development, Dr Atai Ziv, CEO, SolidRun, said, “Our new N6 Edge Gateway represents a total turnkey solution to IoT connectivity. We decided to work with u-blox because the NINA series of short-range radio modules exactly meet the needs of our target market, offering the flexibility and ease of integration needed for the target application areas.

“The fact that they are provided pre-certified has enabled us to reduce our product development cycle, which has been instrumental in bringing our new products to market on time and on budget,” Dr Ziv added.
