The project will be undertaken in partnership with Qrio Technologies Pvt Ltd, a startup founded by CUSAT alumni Abijith C R and Suraj Moothedath.
 
While connectivity to the internet helps improve operational tasks, it also increases security vulnerabilities. According to various reports, attacks against Internet of Things (IoT) devices and networks have escalated over the years.
A three-member alumni team of the Department of Electronics of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is working on a project to address this issue.
And the good news is that they have received Rs 25 lakh grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for developing an energy efficient cybersecurity system for Internet of Things (IoT).
The team includes Bijoy A. Jose, Abhijith C. R. and Suraj Moothedath, who are CUSAT alumni of Btech batch 2014.
A foolproof cybersecurity system for IoT
Bijoy, who is also the assistant professor in the Department of Electronics at CUSAT, noted that while many people focus on making hack-proof software, hardware is also vulnerable to attacks. Their project aims at implementing a foolproof cybersecurity system for IoT.
While the CUSAT team is into developing the software security part of it, the hardware security support is ensured by the Jimson Mathew of IIT Patna.

Bijoy said this cybersecurity system connected to IoT will be so securely encrypted that nobody could crack it.
