Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru have faced the maximum number of cyberattacks according to a report titled, “State of Internet of Things (IoT) Security Report”by Subex for the third quarter (July-September 2019).The three cities together accounted for roughly 38 percent of all attacks. The report also says that smart cities, financial services and transportation sectors lead the sectoral rankings in terms of cyberattacks.
The study by Subex identified over 3500 modular malware samples in the country which saw a 37 percent increase. The report said that 36 per cent of the malware detected could be traced to sources on the Darkweb and 14 per cent of the malware could not be traced to a known source which indicates arrival of new actors.

The report also says that unit cost of malware has increased making hackers procure malware from new sources. Connected infrastructure components linked to smart cities, industries, infrastructure and data centres have become targets for hackers. There has also been an increase in detection of malware connected with critical infrastructure projects. This indicates that hackers are targeting large scale disruption to increase the cost associated with managing such projects.
