Here Launches AI-based Live Sense SDK For Road Safety

Mapping and location platform services provider Here Technologies has announced the availability of Live Sense software development kit (SDK), an artificial intelligence based SDK in beta mode for Android. The company says Live Sense SDK is designed to give drivers real-time insights to make informed decisions on upcoming obstacles, road infrastructure or driving conditions, without cloud processing or connectivity. Here will make the SDK available on iOS soon. The company said it is already working with customers on the first commercial implementations of the SDK.

Scan the driver’s environment’s continuously

Here says with the help of AI and Machine Learning (ML), Live Sense SDK turns devices with front-facing cameras like smartphones, dashcams or vehicle cameras into highly intelligent vehicle sensors. The product scans the driver’s environment’s continuously and can then then detect objects on the road, such as other vehicles, pedestrians, traffic lights and road signs and hazardous structures like potholes, road closures or construction zones.

Angel Mendez, chief operating officer, Here Technologies said, “Driver safety is paramount in everything we do. Today there are still millions of commercial and passenger cars on the roads without the necessary technology to keep drivers informed about potential hazards. The HERE Live Sense SDK will help to change that. It detects objects, behavioral changes and road conditions that can lead to such situations and notifies drivers in time to take action.”

AI and ML detection models

Live Sense SDK uses multiple AI and ML detection models like Road Basics which detects and classifies objects on the road, Road Alerts which recognizes and notifies of braking vehicles, pedestrians and bicycle detection. It also uses Road Hazards feature which detects and classifies unexpected hazards along the way like road closures not yet detected on the map, construction zones and road works. It is also equipped with Road Signs capabilities that detects and classifies speed limits and other signs. The models can be implemented into an application or hardware device says Here.
