As India is stepping towards building smart cities, tech experts believe that LoRaWAN could be the best solution to bring them into reality.

LoRaWAN is a Low Power, Long Range Wide Area Network technology which enables sending small packets of data over very long ranges with extremely low cost and low power requirement.

Though the Internet of Things (IoT) has massive use-cases, large-scale deployments and connecting billions of devices is hindered by certain challenges. Most of the IoT applications require operations with long-range connectivity, less memory intake, and optimized battery life. These requirements limit the applicability of traditional networking technologies like cellular, WiFi, etc. to IoT applications.

These on-ground challenges have been overpowered with the advent of cutting-edge communication technology – LoRaWAN.

This new-age technology offers cost effective multi-kilometer connectivity with a battery life of 5-10 years; enhancing the scope and scalability of every smart application. With incredible features, LoRaWAN brings large-scale IoT applications into life disrupting every facet of IoT worldwide.

LoRaWAN for India

Tech experts acknowledge that this cutting-edge technology has the potential to enhance the value chain of IoT in India; enabling smart cities at scale thereby transforming the whole India into Smart Nation.

To introduce this LoRaWAN technology to India, The Things Conference was organised for the first time on November 9 and 10 at HICC, Hyderabad.

Presented by technology company CyberEye, the two-day conference witnessed over 300 delegates from across the world including global technology leaders, governments, technology experts, academia, research organizations and industrialists to discuss the immense possibilities with IoT and LoRaWAN in India.

They also discussed on how to overcome the challenges in building smart applications at scale.

Speaking about the conference, CyberEye CEO Ram Ganesh said, “Many countries across the world have recognized the potential of LoRaWAN and are implementing the technology to build Smart Nations. The changes it could bring in India are immense. LoRaWAN can reduce the costs involved in building Smart Cities multifold. With this technology, a Smart India is not very far.”

Wienke Giezeman, Founder and CEO of ‘The Things Network’ believes that India will be a great avenue for LoRaWAN.

LoRaWAN applications

This disruptive technology empowers and enhances the operational efficiencies in industrial automation, logistics, environmental monitoring, healthcare, smart cities and many more.

Countries like Netherlands and Philippines are already transforming into smart nations making every sector smart by deploying LoRaWAN in IoT applications.

With The Things Conference India, CyberEye is aiming to build a strong IoT and LoRaWAN community in India creating a collaborative IoT ecosystem and making India a leader in this advanced technology.
