SEMI, the industry association that represents global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, announced global leaders in nanoelectronics research CEA-Leti and Fraunhofer joined the association as a Strategic Association Partner under a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Three months ago, imec, a worldwide leader in nanoelectronics research, joined SEMI by signing the similar agreement.

By associating with imec, CEA-Leti and Fraunhofer, the association brings global scale to three of the top technology research and innovation centers in the world to support and inspire the creation of new technologies and products by its more than 2,100 members.

To push innovation

As per the MoUs, the association will partner with the three organisations to push innovation and extend industry alignment on technology roadmaps and global standards, along with adding technology depth to the over five SEMI vertical application platforms such as smart manufacturing, smart transportation, smart medical technology, smart data and Internet of Things (IoT).

Commenting on the development, Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI, said, “The addition of these premier technology research and innovation hubs epitomises SEMI’s mission to connect, collaborate and innovate throughout the global electronics supply chain. In return, SEMI provides access on our global platform to the US$ 2 trillion global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain to enable new levels of innovation across the industry and bring new opportunities and greater value to our members.”

As per the agreements, the organisations will work to advance technology roadmaps, industry standards and cutting-edge technologies including IoT, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) that allow new capabilities across various ecosystems including automotive, healthcare and electronics manufacturing. This will help in bringing member companies of SEMI closer to new research partners, customers, and deep technical expertise.
