NEC Technologies India Pvt Ltd, a leading company in the integration of IT and network technologies, announced that it has bagged a contract to offer Command and Control Centre components and other Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled systems for Hubballi Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL).
Under the terms of contract, the company will deploy an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), ICT-based solid waste management system and city-wide surveillance system. In addition, it will also integrate ICCC with several other smart elements such as parking management system, intelligent transport management system, a geographic information system, smart poles, power and water SCADA and others.
The project would be implemented in a phased way and will be operational by mid-2019.
ICT-based smart city solutions
Commenting on the development, Takayuki Inaba, Managing Director, NEC Technologies India, said, “In order to make Hubballi Dharwad one of the best smart cities in the country, NEC will utilise its extensive experience in implementation of ICT based smart city solutions across the globe to introduce and integrate a variety of smart city elements with the Integrated Command and Control Centre.”
Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, MD, HDSCL, said, “Efficient, effective and timely implementation of various citizen-friendly ICT systems and smart elements has been the key objective of Hubballi Dharwad Smart City. We have already implemented many smart systems like multi-level public parking management system, e-governance and intelligent transport management system in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad.”
“With a global MNC IT giant like NEC coming on board, we hope to make Hubballi Dharwad one of the best smart cities of the country in next few months,” she added.
Under the project, the major element is an ICT-based solid waste management system, in which RFID tags will be put on three lakh household bins. The activity of garbage collection will be centrally monitored from the ICCC, right from the collection of bins at households till dumping of garbage at designated areas.
Citizens of the city will also be able to directly share their grievances with regards to garbage collection to the concerned authorities with the help of a smart mobile application. The authorities in Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) would be able to directly monitor and keep a track on all the activities by way of a common dashboard at ICCC.
