Software major Microsoft and South Korean telecom operator SK Telecom announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), 5G and cloud.
Microsoft and SK Telecom will combine their technological expertise in fields such as AI, 5G and cloud to collectively promote the business of Internet of Things (IoT) including AI technologies and services, smart factory and media and entertainment services.
In February this year, the two companies entered into a partnership to introduce Microsoft Azure with Metatron, the self-developed big data solution of SK Telecom. In addition, the two companies will jointly work to further upgrade the service and together implement marketing activities.
Leveraging capabilities of each other
As per the MoU, Microsoft and SK Telecom will provide AI-powered products and solutions such as consumer solutions for the enterprise by putting together the capabilities of NUGU, SK Telecom’s AI platform with Microsoft’s Cortana digital assistant.
SK Telecom will adopt Microsoft 365, a part of the Microsoft Office product line, to empower employees, to build a modern workplace and encourage a new way of working among employees. In addition, the telecom operator will extend Microsoft 365 services to other information and communication technology (ICT) companies, which come under the SK Group.
The MoU was signed by Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft and Park Jung-ho, President and CEO of SK Telecom.
