Siemens is supporting Volkswagen in the development of its Industrial Cloud with their open IoT platform MindSphere
In an effort to increase efficiency in production, Volkswagen (VW) Group announced that it has selected Siemens as its integration partner for connecting its 122 global manufacturing units to Amazon cloud.
Siemens will play a major role to ensure that machinery and equipment of various manufacturers at Volkswagen plants are efficiently networked in the cloud, VW said in a statement.
VW collaborated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to integrate and link up data from machines, plants and systems, as a way to enhance and standardise the company’s production processes and systems.
For Siemens, Volkswagen is a crucial, high-profile client for its MindSphere Internet of Things (IoT) platform, the centre of its Digital Factory division.
Efficient and flexible production
Commenting on the development, Klaus Helmrich, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, said, “Siemens is supporting Volkswagen in the development of its Industrial Cloud with their open IoT platform MindSphere. For this purpose, we will network machinery, production systems, and equipment using MindSphere and automation platforms.”
“This way, VW, suppliers and machinery producers leverage the potential of production data effectively. It will be possible to make production more efficient and flexible as well as further improving product quality,” he added.
Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG and Member of the Board of Management of VW, said, “We want to make our Volkswagen Industrial Cloud a partner network with digital functions, bringing benefits to all the participating companies. In Siemens, we have secured a strong partner with outstanding digitalisation and industry expertise.”
