Maxim Introduces Single-Chip Security Solutions to Safeguard Sensitive IoT Data

The single chip security solutions provide strong security that can be simply integrated into a design at any development stage

Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. introduced the highly integrated MAX36010 and MAX36011 single-chip security supervisors that can enable the designers of internet of things (IoT) devices to have a smarter and more secure way to safeguard stored, sensitive information.

These solutions make it simpler for the designers to deploy strong tamper detection, secure storage and cryptography while protecting the sensitive information through logical and physical protections, without being the security experts themselves.

Commenting on the development, Stella Or, Product Definer for the Micros, Security & Software Group, Maxim Integrated, said, “IoT devices have now become commonplace in consumer households, which store personal and sensitive data related to the user’s day-to-day activities. While IoT designers have security top of mind, they are not always experts in this area.”

Easy to integrate

“Many of Maxim’s customers find that the MAX36010 and MAX36011 are both very easy to integrate in their design and most importantly, fulfil their security requirements, especially customers looking to design devices that meet the highest level of security and offer FIPS140-2 certification,” said Or.

Julian Watson, Senior Principal Analyst – IoT Connectivity, IHS Markit, said, “The exponential growth of IoT devices will continue on its upward trend and is predicted to jump an average of 12 per cent per year from 27.8 billion units in 2017 to over 135 billion units in 2030. More IoT devices in the market mean that more of consumers’ personal data is at risk and designers of these devices need to be responsible for ensuring that the IoT ecosystem is genuinely safe and secure for users.”

Both the single chip security solutions provide strong security that can be simply integrated into a design at any development stage. In addition, if these components are integrated at a later stage in the design cycle, the platform needs not be changed to accommodate them, thus simplifying the process of implementation. As compared to other solutions, these devices facilitate a 60 per cent faster design cycle, along with lowering the bill of materials (BOM) cost by 20 per cent.
