Digi International Introduces Remote USB Hubs for Industrial Applications

Digi International, a global leader in providing of Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity products and services, announced that the launch of Digi AnywhereUSB Plus products. These network-attached remote USB hubs are ideal to connect USB peripheral devices to a PC over an IP or, with a cellular module, long term evolution (LTE) network.

These products are provided with two, eight, or 24 USB 3.1 Gen 1 connectors that allow connectivity of USB device from remote, local or virtualised hosts.

Key applications

The modular approach of AnywhereUSB Plus to the cellular support means that the devices are 5G ready. The major applications of the product include kiosks, manufacturing lines, logistics tracking, restaurant kitchens and software license key fob management.

Commenting on the development, Scott Nelson, VP – Product, Digi International, said, “USB connectivity has become a real point of interest for organisations operating kiosks, ATMs and manufacturing lines, among other applications, and we’ve designed the Digi AnywhereUSB Plus to meet the specific needs of those.”

Later this year, apart from USB 3.1 port connectivity, all the eight-port and 24-port models of the product will be available for software upgrade for support Digi’s CORE LTE cellular modules. In addition, the company will introduce SKUs that add wi-fi connectivity, at a later date.

The industrial and enterprise customers that require local or remote USB on the factory floor, in the kitchen and anywhere in between, can count on the security, reliability and device management capabilities of the two-port, eight-port, or 24-port packages of the product.
