Avnet-a leading global technology solutions provider,in its recent survey has revealed that Internet of Things (IoT) and sensor are the most important technologies for electronic product developers.
As per the report,IoT and sensors technology witnessed an extraordinary growth in 2018.IoT products witnessed substantial growth in importance, an increase of 14 per cent as compared to previous year.On the other hand, drones and robotics projects were up by 8 per cent. However, security for IoT remains the major challenge for electronic product developers to overcome.
Most improved technology
Around 61 per cent of product developers said that IoT and sensors are the most crucial technologies for products they are developing.
Dayna Badhorn, Vice President – Emerging Business, Avnet, said that developers have more access to resources and communities like theirs and this is helping accelerate the pace of bringing new products to market. IoT and sensors are leading the way in importance and impacting the design process.Badhorn added that survey respondents also noted these are the most underrated technologies when it comes to innovation, signaling that IoT and sensors will have an even greater impact as developers engage partners to help them take their ideas from prototype to production.
In spite of strong growth of innovation in 2018, developers are also facing bigger challenges in some areas. Around 81 per cent developers believe that security continues to be the biggest technological challenge in the deployment of IoT.
According to 26 per cent of respondents, the most difficult elements of product development are finding out the best technology to use in the designs and 22 percent observed that obtaining certification for the product is difficult.The survey also cover other challenging areas like bringing products to market is getting finance for the development.
Avnet has surveyed around 1,190 members of Hackster.io and element14 engineering communities for understanding about the focus of their development efforts and the challenges they are facing.
