The company aims to triple its production capacity and double the factory headcount to about 800 in the next three years.
 
Harman, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co, will invest Rs 350 crore to expand its automotive electronics manufacturing plant at Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra.
Established in 2014, the plant manufactures highly sophisticated connected car solutions, including automotive infotainment units, for India’s domestic and global automotive customers.
Through this phase II expansion, the company aims to triple its production capacity and double the factory headcount to about 800 by 2021.
In the next three years, production of Digital Cockpit Units (DCU) and Telematics Control Units (TCU) from the Chakan plant is expected to increase from the current 2,00,000 units to over 25,00,000 units annually – a steep 12-fold rise.
First major manufacturing investment post-2019 general elections
Harman will also install four new world-class SMT production/assembly lines to scale the total manufacturing lines to six from the present two.
The company intends to export its products to Europe and Asia markets, and attract global brands like Daimler, Volkswagen and Fiat-Chrysler.
“This is the first major manufacturing investment by a top global corporation, post-2019 general elections,” said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadvanis during the inauguration of the second phase of the plant.
With this expansion, Harman CEO and president Dinesh Paliwal is expecting a 30-40 percent revenue growth from India.
